A man died and went to Heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him.

某人死后来到天国，在天国门口遇到了圣彼得，同时看见圣彼得后面的一大片墙上挂满了时钟。

 He asked, "Whatever are all those clocks for?"

 他问道：「那些时钟是作什么用的？」

 St. Peter answered, "Those are lie-clocks. Everyone on Earth has a lie-clock.

 Every time you tell a lie, the hands on your clock will move a tiny bit."

 圣彼得回道：「那些都是记录扯谎的钟，每个人一生都跟随着一个扯谎的钟，他每扯一次谎时钟的指针就动一小格。」

 "Oh," said the man, pointing at a clock still at 12, "whose clock is that?"

 「喔！」这人回应，并指着一个仍停留在十二点的钟问：「那个钟是谁的呢？」

 "That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating that she was totally honest."

 「那是泰瑞莎修女的，它的指针从未动过，这表示她一生都没扯过谎，是个

 很坦诚的人。」

 "I see," said the man. "And whose clock is that one?"

 「我明白了。」此人说道；「那个钟又是谁的呢？」

 St. Peter responded, "That's George Washington's clock. The hands have moved twice, telling us that he told only two lies in his entire life."

 圣彼得回道：「那是乔治˙华盛顿的钟，它的指针动过二次，这表示他这一生

 只扯过二次谎。」

 "Why this clock point at 11:59, was that man more honest than Mother

 Teresa?"

 「那这个钟为什么指到11点59分，难道此人比泰瑞莎修女还要诚实？」

 St. Peter replied again, "No, that's Bill Clinton's clock; telling that he told lies many times in his leader period. One more lie the clock will point at 12."

 圣彼得又回答：「错了！那是比尔˙柯林顿的。这表示他在总统任内谎言不断，再加上一次就可以回到12点了。」

 "Where's Chen Shuei-Bian's clock?" asked the man.

 「那台湾—陈水扁，他的钟在哪里呢？」这人问道。

 And St. Peter replied, "Abian's clock is in my office; I'm using it for a ceiling fan!"

 圣彼得回应道：「阿扁的钟在我办公室，我把它装在天花板上当风扇用

 了。」
