Teachers cheat, fake to get ahead

http://en.youth.cn   2006-11-29 09:46:00 ¡¡¡¡
It's shocking to learn that 132 teachers in Suizhou, Hubei Province, faked their diplomas in applications for academic titles in the past two years.

Most of the teachers say they cheated because the application was too difficult.

Altogether about 13,800 teachers in Suizhou applied for a promotion in their academic titles in the past two years.

In China, teachers' income is closely linked to their academic titles.

The percentage of the teachers who cheated in Suizhou may not be very high, but what shocked the public is that the cheaters were teachers and they refused to repent over their misconduct.

Instead, they found all kinds of excuses, such as saying they were too old to pass relevant exams.

Teachers are supposed to be "the engineers of human souls."

How can they uplift the minds of their students if they are corrupt themselves?

Teachers do not just teach by words, they teach by example - good or bad.

Now the academic titles of the 132 cheaters have been revoked, but the image of teachers has already been damaged.
