The magazine U.S. News and World Report has released its 2007 list of America's best colleges on August 18th.
Princeton University has held the top spot for seven years in a row, and for the past three years has tied for first with Harvard University. But this year Harvard has slipped slightly to second-place ranking.
U.S. News and World Report ranks the country's universities every year based on their graduation rate, faculty resources, financial resources, and alumni-donation rate. Its report is considered to be the most authoritative of its kind in the U.S.
A high ranking gives the colleges honor, but also brings pressure.
Located in New Jersey, Princeton University is of such stature that it even attracted Einstein to go live there. Yale University took up third place in the ranking.
Robert Morse, who is in charge of the survey, said the ranking should not be the only criteria when choosing which college to attend. People should go visit the university themselves to see if they personally find it worth their money.
