The youngest, and third generation, of the recovered lepers from the Yi ethnic minority take a lesson at a primary school in Xi De, a remote leprosy village which began in the 1950s, about 480km (300 miles) south of Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan Province. Recovered lepers go back to their remote Xi De village after an eye surgery for "hare's eye", a condition that is commonly seen in people who have suffered leprosy, at Xining village, 500km (310 miles) south of Chengdu. Chinese characters on the wall reads "United, lively, friendship".
